SCC Events: FLSCC Presents: RED HOT – THE CHEMISTRY AND HISTORY OF AZO PIGMENTS IN THE COSMETIC INDUSTRY
The Florida Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists will be hosting a virtual event on August 18, 2022 to be held virtually. The session will be hosted by industry veteran Kelly Dobos.
Abstract:
Synthetic organic pigments are some of the most vibrant and valuable colorants used in cosmetics today, especially those that are red. In fact, Red 6 and Red 7 Lakes historically represent 50 to 60 percent of all D&C Lakes certified each year by the US Food and Drug Administration. From their humble origins in the accidental discovery of 'mauvine' to their use in iconic red lipsticks, we'll take a look at the cosmetic application of these colorants through the lens of history that informs their uses and regulatory restrictions today, including a historical summary of US FDA color additive regulations (FLSCC).
This event is free of cost for all SCC members.
