Two Augusta, Georgia Teens Spotlighted for Their Viral "Herping" Tik Tok Videos
If you are like me and have never heard of the term "herping", then you are not alone. It is what the kids these days are calling their activities that encompass herpetology, which is a branch of zoology that focuses on the study of amphibians and reptiles. The hashtag, "#herping" has over 400 thousand posts on Instagram and 76 million, yes million, views on Tik Tok. So it is safe to say the younger generation is into herping.
This news clip follows two teens, Tim Holland and Ro Smith, on their herping adventures near the waterways surrounding Augusta, Georgia. The city sits along the Savannah River which also serves as a natural barrier between the Georgia and South Carolina state lines. I especially love this story because it emphasizes what this platform is all about, showcasing those underrepresented in STEM. The cherry on top is that Ro and Tim are from my hometown of Augusta, Georgia.
I definitely hope these young men keep up their adventures and pursue them as a career. I encourage you or your kids, nieces, nephews, and/or mentees to do as I have done and give both of them a follow. I can't wait to see what their futures hold.
