7 of My Favorite Cosmetic Science Resources
If you're interested in the field of cosmetic science or you're just beginning and looking for some additional resources, I have a few of my go-to websites listed below. They are reputable platforms and are updated pretty regularly. The list is not where near all inclusive, If you have more, please comment and share!
1. HAPPI
HAPPI is an acronym for Health and Personal Products Industry. As being one of the oldest resources (50 years), it is a website and digital magazine that offers the latest from the industry. It covers just about every sector from business revenues, appointments, the latest raw materials and consumer products lines, and trends. HAPPI also has directory of manufacturers an consultants on their site.
Cosmetics Business offers similar information as HAPPI, but they tend to cover more celebrity and pop culture news as it relates to cosmetics. It's like the Business of Fashion, but cosmetics focused.
Speaking of The Business of Fashion, while this website focuses on well, the business of fashion, it does touch on beauty. As you dig deeper into the cosmetics industry, you will quickly see how fashion and beauty are very interconnected, which one influencing the other at different times or simultaneously. Just click on the "Beauty" tab for the latest news published on the platform.
4. Society of Cosmetics Chemists
The SCC is the industry's leading organization for cosmetic scientists, raw material suppliers and the like. It has been around for 75 years and is a go-to resources for the industry's journal, Journal of Cosmetic Science, news, events, and SCC chapter info. The SCC recently launched a career center for members. You do not have to be a member to access the website but to be a member of the society, you must pay a yearly fee (discounted rate for students) and be affiliated with the industry in some way.
One of the oldest and reputable blogs among cosmetic scientists, it was founded by veteran chemists, with the face of the brand being Perry Romanowski, the Chemists Corners offers a wealth of information. You will find everything from how to become a cosmetic chemist, a list of schools offering the program, online courses, and more. Perry also authored the text Beginning Cosmetics Chemistry 3rd Edition, which is considered by many in the industry to be a staple in their personal library.
Created by the Chemists Corner team, and now ran by Perry Romanowski and Valerie George, The Beauty Brains is an industry blog created by veterans as a resource for those currently working in the industry. the blog has an associated podcasts and often has guest features from others in the industry.
7. LinkedIn
There are many in the cosmetic science space on LinkedIn. Many use the platform as a blog and now that articles are allowed, have delivered free and useful industry information. If you don't have an account, I encourage you to sign up and search using phrases such as "cosmetic chemist". "cosmetic scientists", "formulator" and the like to find people in the industry
